I had some ring shank SB nails I wanted to take out and replace with the larger screws That I had run out of when I already had the epoxy on the pieces and I had to tack it with the only nails I had. I have this thing made by a company called Hougen called a roto-broach. I bought it years ago to cut spotwelds on my 70 Bronco. So i took one of those spring loaded center punches and put a divot on the center of the nail heads. The Broach took the nail head off in a split second leaving the shaft of the nail and since it is a bottom cutter it didnt harm the countersinks. The kit I got was off the tool truck that came to our shop. They also cut o-ring grooves with them if need be. The sizes were from 1/4" OD X 1/8th" id to 3/4 OD X about 3/8ths ID. has a spring loaded pin in the middle for it's pilot so it doesnt leave the puck wedged in the center of the cutter.

Sounds like a useful tool. You cut the heads off the nails but are the shanks still in there?

Yes,the shank is still there because the broach is hollow like a hole saw. it leaves just a tiny ridge of the nail head but that slips right through the nail hole. but as soon as you put pressure on the drill the head of the nail is gone. I looked for them online last night and i found them but I didnt see the assorted kit like I have. The kit I have comes with a mandrel,5 assorted size cutters an allen wrench for adjusting tension on the pilot pin and an extra pilot.
