...should I be planning for this boat?

Ha!

Just thought I'd post a few pictures of the latest boat(s) going together in my shop.

The pram is based on Gavin Atkin's Little Breton but I scaled it down to about 40" LOA. The one in the background of the first picture is a Baby Tender by Warren Jordan.

The keels, knees and transoms are walnut, the planking will be clear pine with copper rivets. Steam bent ash ribs will be installed later.

Are you going to retain Gavin's original flat sheer?

Yeah, I will on this one. I'm not sure I like the flat sheer in a full sized boat but I think it will be more practical for this cradle since it isn't very deep to begin with. Besides, it'll be less noticeable in this cradle because the normal viewpoint will be looking down on it.

Hope it will be alright.

I agree with you abou the sheer on a boat this size. On the full size boat the flat sheerline makes the ends look a little droopy, IMO.

Have you got specific crewmembers in mind for these boats, or are you building them on spec as encouragement for your children to 'get busy'? ;)

My bride and I are expecting our first little sailor in May so I need to get this done.

Whoops! I obviously had you confused with someone much older. Who that is, I'm not saying! redface.gif :D

Congratulations on the pending arrival! If your experience is anything like ours, it will be the best thing that ever happened to you.

Looks like a rough job bending that keel down to the bow transom, Dave. Did it require any steam, or just a little coaxing?

John, no worries on the age thing. I am almost 43 after all.

Chadd, The keel wasn't too bad. It's actually laminated. The wide part which has the bevels for the garboards is about 3/8" thick. there are three layers 1/4" thick and one 3/8" thick epoxied to the first piece. they were laminated in place on the frames. There was some springback but not too much. The forward knee (what's that thing really called) is screwed to the table and I hope once all the planks are glued and riveted in place the springback won't be an issue.
