View Full Version : Peak Halyard

The plans show the peak halyard coming down the mast and through a cheek block. It is than routed around the cabin to a cleat at the cockpit.

I was thinking of coming down the mast and hitting that cheek block and than running out to the outboard side of the boat and adding another cheek block and than running back to a cleat at the cockpit.

every block you add ,adds friction. Thats why in general I don't like halyards lead aft. Your boat isn't particularly big so I can see how it won't be too much of a problem in your case.
I'd have them turning at the foot of the mast just far enough out so they don't lie too close to it,( perhaps a bit aft , if there's room)running through fairleads on the cabin top and I'd have the peak and the throat close together so that you can haul on them and dump them together with one hand.
