I was just wondering, if we made it a holiday on poll day...and knowing some businesses will have to work anyway...who would vote?

Masses of construction workers

office people?

would, and if so, how would such a holiday alter the vote demographic? (left, right or center)

I think we should have a holiday AND open the bars. After all, who'd want to vote for any of 'em sober? :D

Seriously, it might increase turnout a bit. My guess is that it would favor Democrats slightly as general increases in turnout usually do, although I doubt the effect would be large. Polls are open early and late, so anybody who really wants to and has their act halfway together can vote without too much hassle.

The question should not be "who will vote?," but rather "will the outcome change?"

Seems foolish to spend money (someone has to pay for the time off) if we get the same result.
