OK, it wasn't Mystic, or Seattle, or even Hoboken for that matter! But there were lots of nice bits of cut up trees, and the small number of classic cars was pretty cool, and it was right down the street.

This raghauler was a bit disappointed that it was all stinkpots, but I got a pretty good fill of classic sail on Sunday. That's for another thread.

Word on the docks was that the organizers didn't do a great job of getting boats out, but the ones that made it were real beauts.

First the cars.

Lovely photos! One would think the dark green used on the cabin tops of Gracie would be hell on the wood and inside temperatures down in SoCal,no?

I think Gracie is the ex Tu'Tu'Baks out of Bremerton.

Thanks, I was working with a borrowed camera. I wish I had more wide angle to work with, but I was quite happy with the pics. I thought about cleaning them up a little with Photoshop, but they're not going in a glossy mag so this is what you guys get.

It does get hot down here, but it's not the tropics. I didn't get a chance to go below on Gracie, she was pretty crowded, but dark blue non skid was pretty popular a while back, and we love our teak decks in So Cal. I don't think the green would be a serious problem.

I've got a few more pics if anybody is interested.

Madrigal sure is a beaut!! If I were to ever get a stinkpot, I think it would be one from that era. Here's a few more shots of her, and some others.

Many cool pictures, thanks much...but I love this little nav box, a design to copy some day.

I loved that GPS box too. The top had a really nice inlay that I meant to get a good shot of, but there was just too much nice work around me. I meant to have him close it again, but just forgot. He also had a "really nice" array of modern electronics above and right out in the open. It just didn't seem to really fit though. I was just about to shoot it, but stopped just before getting the camera to my face. The owner looked like he knew what I was thinking. We both shook our heads and laughed as I said "nobody needs to know about that."

I'll post some more later.

Do you know the name of the first boat you posted by any chance please? The Stephens. She is similar to my boat in some design areas. I'd really be interested in any more shots you may have of her too if that isn't too much to ask.

Great pics Schooners, I've enjoyed seeing all of those including the cars. I always wanted a 40 pickup like that one , bought a jailbar instead , but I did have a 39 deluxe coupe at one point and it has the same basic front as that one( teardrop lights tho)
Daughter just went off to her school ball 2 weeks ago in a 55 Chev tradesmans station wagon ( 2 door, thats what the owner told me it was , ex california car) so the 56 was nice to see too.
Never got any woodies here that I know of.

Sorry, I was having a little trouble with a borrowed camera and a few shots didn't come out. The Stephens didn't interest me as much as the others, and I just didn't pay as much attention to her. I'll see what I can find out.

Thanks for more...what did you think of the fan tail yacht Miriam? The fly bridge doesn't look original or to my taste, but the rest of her is awfully pretty. Any info about the boat in the last pic?

SchoonerRat

Miriam is a beauty. Like all the other boats at the fest, she was impeccably maintained. I just love the fantail. She is for sale BTW.

The boat in the last pic is Riptide. She was featured in a '80s tv series of the same name. The series was mostly shot in Marina del Rey, but I remember a couple of shoots just down the dock from where she sits here, and a shoot on the dock where I was working on Ranger. A couple more pics of her to follow

It was a pleasure meeting/having you aboard.

P.S.
Not to toot my own horn... but we took first place at the awards that evening.

Congrats on a well deserved honor. Only Madrigal tugged at my heart as much as your boat, but I suffer from a brain disorder that makes me favor power boats from her era.:D

Every boat deserves an owner that loves her. Arrivederci is lucky to have one of the best. I doubt she looked any better when she first hit the water.

I'm looking forward to next year. Hope you guys can get a better turnout, and how about maybe lowering yourselves to include something with sails.

Thanks for those shots! Nice to see those west coast boats, liked that Elco too, we saw 2 nice big ones @ the Clayton, NY show last week. We had seen one (the 1925 56ft "Hermione") going up river past our place the week before the show. Looked like one of Dewey's gunboats!

On a down note, that Speedster is a repro, the e brake between the seats is a dead giveaway :(

Excusable in the Northeast, less so in SoCal -- where I hear you can't swing a cat without hitting an old Porsche. ;)

You had to ruin it for me didn't you? :(

Guess I was too busy drooling to notice. Memories of my old 1960 356 B were dancing in my head. It sure was pretty nonetheless.

Old Porsches aren't as plentiful down here as they once were. Seeing a good one really turns my head these days.

BTW, that big black thing with 3 stacks, classic though she is, wasn't part of the festival. She isn't even wood. She's just been hanging out there for the past 40 some odd years. I've come to think of her as an old friend. I was part of the flotilla that greeted her when she came into port for the last time under her own power, and during my charter boat days she was a major point of interest during my "sewer tours".

That's all till next year. I have it on good authority that the turnout will be better. There's a lot more beautiful old wood down here in So Cal. I know, I've worked and sailed on a bunch of them.

Dad went to war on her. Sydney to the Middle East via India.
