Add a little dishwashing liquid to the water.
If it still gums up, let the epoxy cure more fully.

I have used the wet sanding method on epoxy when I had problems with the paper gumming up.
Seemed to work quite well.
I used automotive type wet sandpaper

sounds like you havent washed off the amine blush. get a scotchbrite pad and some ammonia and water and give it a good scrubbbing-hose it off let dry and sanding should be much more enjoyable

I agree with Dutch. Did not know that Amonia does the trick but believe it is so as I use Amonia to lift varnish.
This "amine blush" a by product of the copolymer kicking; flies at a picnic.

I washed with detergent, water and a scotch brite,I could maybe have needed more curing time.

What sort of project you got going?
If this is a googe project maybe the paper is not course enough. I sometimes start out with 80 or 60 grit, sometimes even 36 grit, and depending on what I'm doing will progress from there.

I found that a standard paint scraper was a great help in cleaning out epoxy squeeze out where it was too thick or gummy for just sanding. Heat will help the process.

Sorry, I do not know what a googe project is maybe you can enlighten me, I am building the Glen L LITTLE HUNK fiberglass over plywood. I did use a cabinet scraper to go over the whole boat to start with, this was a big help.I do believe that my sander is way too fast I am using a porter cable 333, I think the porter cable 333vs (variable speed)would do a lot better I will purchase one in the future an post an update. Thanks..

if yu are still having trouble with the paper loading up after washing it down good then you have an epoxy problem. you must not be mixing it properly or it may have been contaminated with something
