Met the guys at RBG today to discuss some special work they need. They loved to hear the story of Margo terrorizing the St. Augustine fleet! :D And couldn't help but laugh at the story of John B.'s dumbfounded reaction to recieving his cannon.
I will say, they have a beautiful selection of cannons, and do quite beautiful restoration work, and repairs....... All this out of a shop in what looks like a storage bay at a self-store rental place. I'm hoping to get the job to make a base for a 1700's Dutch swivel gun :D

So it would have been like a kid in a candy store?
Keep us posted on the possible job.

Good luck with the swivel gun. I missed the famous thread.

P.S. I thought you'd be more of a sternchaser, with the occasional broadside.

Heh. heh .heh.

I meant to send em a forum topic link so they could see that cool shot my mate Mike took when he nearly had that heart attack. The reflexive auto control finger clamping photo shot. They haven't got an email on their site though so I just didn't follow through.
Shootingest dang cannon in the southern hemisphere that unit is.:D

Shootingest dang cannon in the southern hemisphere that unit is.:D They're about 15-20 minutes from me John..... I'll find what I can for you, or hook them up with you via the WBF.... I think they do business as "The old cannon man" or "Ye olde Cannon man".... Something like that.... I'll find out for you. It's two really nice guys. One of which at least has done a bunch of ocean racing.

If Berk ain't see those pictures it's not MY fault... I sent him the links, I might have even stolen that spectacular photo and emailed it to him.

Nice guy. Don't let him know you know me or he'll, well he can't double your price, but he'll think of some way to get even.

Ed,

Berk didn't see too upset when I mentioned your name just now. I ordered a Sunset cannon for my brother to use in Maine.

He also spoke highly of the gentlemen from the Forum who visited yesterday. Sounds like a neat project.

We'll give you that one, Russ...

Cannons on one of the canoes would be a BIG surprise to people. Probably roll the boat on a broadside...

Well... you might want to mention .... well..... you probably shouldn't tell them I BROKE their cannon ... but .... um.... er..... apparently they are not exactly "Margo proof" :(

(I know, all I gotta do is send it back, but we're really having too much fun with it :D)

HOW THE HELL DID YOU BREAK a solid brass/bronze cannon?

NOOOoooooooooo.........

It's not broken broken, but we managed to bend the pin just a smidgen. Just enough so it doesn't always spring back. No problem to "cock" it by hand. David Gage, our chief cannonier, has it down to a science :D

I never thought about it before, but do cannons have a warranty?

John B

Absolutely, warranted to scare the living daylights out of anything and everything in a 1 mile radius.

Just smidgen it the other way. Pic please; allow us to assist in the repair.

Happy cannoning,

Russ

Further evidence that nothing is deckhand-proof. Broke one and probably lost the other, dintcha?

Absolutely, warranted to scare the living daylights out of anything and everything in a 1 mile radius.

The 'first' firing of mine was down at the lake, at night... It was, um, well, I can't tell you what my co-conspirator's exact words were, but she was reviewing her Miranda rights as she attempted to run back to the house, up the hill, in the dark, with whatever night vision she had lost to the totally spectacular muzzle flash.

Then their was the birthday celebration at Grad School - thank heavens the Program Director had a sweet spot for me. ;)

A little update regarding the "broken" cannon...:D
Turns out that the firing pin had developed a small burr on it that caused it to bind just a wee bit. There is a retaining pin that had caused the burr, probably due to us swinging a bit heavy on the firing hammer:eek:. I de-burred it with a piece of scotchbrite, and now she's good as new.:) Ready to retake the fort when neccesary.

I will say that this thing is one of the nicest pieces of workmanship I have messed with.
