Latest News

Between laying up for the hurricane season, preparing for the coming regatta season in the Caribbean and even with the possible sale of the boat we are now setting our sights firmly on 2009.

"Kate", a First Rule (1907) International Twelve Metre, needs to do the circuit that spans Newport, Mystic, Buzzards Bay, Eggemoggin Reach, Edgartown, Marblehead, Stonington, Oyster Bay and New York.

We are looking for two or three crew who will sail the boat to Newport in June 2009 and participate in the above program. It should be a memorable Summer. Remember, "Kate" is a Symphony in both Spartan and Simplicity.

Mentally fit, fun loving, adventurous types with the price of their own beer should apply.

You can contact the owner & Captain, Philip Walwyn:
Email: katedesign2@aol.com
Telephone: 869 465 7740 - Fax: 869 465 4555

No advertising on the WoodenBoat forums. Fun as this might be, this announcement does not belong here. Please don't post this any more.

And, yes. We're all delighted Kate is coming up next year, but still.

Fun as this might be, this announcement does not belong here. I disagree. Why doesn't it belong here? People look for crew at this venue quite often. It clearly says there'll be no fee.

Yeah right!
No posting of sailing possibilities on a 12mR.

We don't want this!
We want to discuss WMD, G.W.Bush or even MoBo's...instead ;)

Why don't you set the example and remove the links from your signature, that appears on every one of your posts, directing the viewer to your personal websites where your photographs are for sale?

Why don't you set the example and remove the links from your signature, that appears on every one of your posts, directing the viewer to your personal websites where your photographs are for sale? Thanks for that post.

There are numerous posts with links to boats for sale on eBay, etc, individuals touting their own commercial or semi-commercial website(s).
Elf should all these stop?

I posted it as a link for somebody that wants a free sail on a rare type yacht.

Elf, why don't you go on the trip ? You could supplement your photo library and make money!

Personally I am not selling the trip for a price or the offering yacht for sale.

I have no financial interest in the yacht or in the trip.

My only interest is that it having sailed on Kate I thought that it is a wonderful opportunity for a couple of people on this form to enjoy - at no cost.

Elf. please explain what is so wrong with that, including reference to 'signatures' and links that others post?

PS I also sent an email to the editor of wooden Boat (whom I have met and sailed with on Kate) about it.

I fail to see how this is advertising, is there anything for sale?

Are they paying the crew?

Is the crew paying them?

My interpretation of the line "price of thier own beer" is that you should have your own financial resources, not expect the captain to pay you a salary. I don't see how anything else could be interpreted as an advertisment.

Half the forum looks for crew from time to time, it's one of the best reasons to come here.

It's called a freebee

Is anyone on this - Wooden Boat - forum interested in going for the sail or even apply to go on a part/sector of the sail?

Or is it that we are all merely armchair sailors?

I'd love to go but couldn't set aside the time. She looks like a fun ride.

I'd go... if it wasn't for the wife and the kids and the business and the college bills...
I guess I'll just have to sail my little sloop instead. But it sure would be fun to join in on race day for the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta. :D

Wonderful opportunity, I'd love to go but cannot for the same reasons as Steven.

I've posted much more business oriented stuff than this and not got my hand slapped.

Well I've passed it along to a very capable young lady I just happen to know... It might work for me, depending upon the exact timing - that's a slow time of year for me (for about 30 days or so...).

I'd love to go, but Hwyl says I'd have to know how to tie not only a square knot, but a bowline as well!

I could learn before next summer - but unfortunately, my handicaps prevent me from crewing. I don't suppose you'd take a 14 year old boy?

(I try to give him away at every opportunity!)

If my responsibilities were the same as they were 20 years ago I would already be gone.

If my daughter were 20 years old (she is seven) she would already be gone.

Oh, I'd go. You had better believe I'd go. And I agree. I'd be more angry if people DIDN'T post things like this.

Boat looks big enough to fit an armchair somewhere if you ask nicely!

I know of at least two persons (on this forum alone) that have expressed interest.

I envy them.
