Im at the finishing stages of deck beams on centerboard-knockabout. after searching though all the topics and having some direction on proceding from the Gudions boat bible. im still
asking the Question about how to procede. The boat is 17 feet long 5 feet on the beam the hull is strip planked with 1/2"x3/4"old growth cedar deck beams 3/4"x1-1/4" old growth fir spaced at 5 inchs Im thinking of 1/4"x2" edge grain old growth fir coated with epoxy on back then glued to the beams there are other ways to do it and Im open to ideas because once i glue them down theyll not be comming up also something to consider is that there is a waterproof area(flotation) at the bow which will only be accesible from a 6inch opening. is this a good direction to be heading in? will add more later
dave
sorry bout that had to go
anyway she is a herrshoff design from the 1930s
Im building her to more modern specs and keeping her somewhat lighter than the original although
i beleive not that much the deck im considering building would be edge glued (epoxy) and sealed with the same as i said before the beam spacing is 5 inchs im thinking that glass would be overkill with such hard edge grain fir. also if i was going to glass the deck i think i would start with red cedar
