My family's small estate in CT has stands of Spruce, Colorado Blue and Normay, stands of White Pine, all planted ~70 years ago, and a lot of locust ?Black? that nowgrows wild and was used as our fence post stock for many years.
We would like to remove most of it as it is getting too overpowering, sun can't reach the lawns anymore.
I was thinking of approaching Mystic Seaport as I though there may be interest in the Spruce and Locust.
We'd like to sell it off, but if that's no attainable, would consider donating it to get it off the lot.
I know you guys will have a lot of suggestions and I look forward to the replys.
It is located in upper New Haven County, CT

Fred

Blue and Norway Spruce are probably useless for boats, but fine for rough siding on sheds etc. The Pine might be useful. The Locust is probably useful.... BUT.... My guess is that you'll be PAYING someone to cut and take it, not getting paid.
A better I.D. of the locust {black/Honey, etc} would be nice...

The locust has the very short thorns vs. the long thorns near the base, That is why I assumed it may be the Black varity.
Please let me know if there is anything else I should look for.
Thanks

If the softwoods grew in the sun and are thick with branches, they are only worth their weight as pulp at $3-400 a ton. Too many knots. And that's only if there's enough to bother with.
Both Black and Honey Locust are useful however, with Black being more desirable. But there's probably not enough for any market value. In these days of $5 diesel at 4-6mpg, if I can't gross out in 30,000 or 55,000lb increments to fit the truck appropriate for the job, I ain't coming for sawlogs unless they are high-value species. The firewood guys may be interested though.
Sorry, but in my lifetime I've only seen a couple lawn trees worth buying for lumber. Below was one, producing around 4000bf....but we even got that one for the price of removal.
