Hi,

I'm looking for a thru-hull connection to use on the transom for the output from the bilge pump (3/4" hose).

I need something that will work for a transom thickness of about 2-1/4 inches. I know I can order a bronze part that will work but I would rather have chrome or stainless.

According to the Conbraco website, they make both bronze and chrome plated but I can't find anywhere that stocks the chrome version (or maybe they don't make those?). Also, I've seen some stainless parts (Attwood, etc.) but those are not long enough.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

I'm surprised anyone makes stainless throughhulls. The danger of anaerobic crevice corrosion eliminates most all types of stainless as candidates for underwater service. Cost in the machining is also a factor. Your best bet is to take a bronze one to your local electroplating shop and have it chromed. They do a lot of this sort of work, particularly for the antique auto restorers. You'll likely save bucks if you tell them you'd be happy to wait until they have a run of small stuff and can add it to that batch, rather than doing it "one off" in a rush.

By two stainless and tig weld them to make the threads longer.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought of eBay......

What I need is a thru-hull that will go through the transom (2 1/4" thick mahogany and ash) and will be used for the bilge pump output.

This will use a 3/4" hose so I need a thru-hull that is long enough to go through the hull and then connect to the hose or to an adapter with barbs for a 3/4" hose.

Does that make sense? The boat is a small runabout (Rascal) but it does call for a bilge pump according to the plans.

Thanks,
Dave
