My husband and I just inherited an old Flying Saucer wooden boat.
There are no serial numbers or anything on it. We are trying to figure out how old it is. He is 47 and his father bought it used. It is all original, but needs lots of TLC. Anybody have any ideas as to when they were built (new) and not from a kit??

Is that the little 12' Glen-L motorboat? I don't know if they were ever manufactured, or if they were always home-built.

That looks like it. The top and sides are wood and the bottom is red. No racing stripe on the side though. What is Glen-L? Ours has the Flying Saucer logo in the side.

Glen-L sells home-built boat plans. I don't think they manufacture boats, maybe a test model for each design but that's probably it.

I could have been painted any number of ways, the painting is up to the builder, as are any other details. I don't know about a logo, maybe they sold logo plates for some boats as accessories.

Or maybe it's a whole other boat altogether. :)

Here's their page on their Flying Saucer, with some photos and such, but no date as to when the design originated.
