I've started work on my glued lapstrake Rangeley, and I'm thinking a few steps down the line.
I've read many threads that advise not coating the wood with epoxy to prevent trapping moisture in the wood after the coating scratches or cracks. Instead, the recommendation is paint.
Wouldn't coating the wood on both sides with paint or varnish encapsulate the wood and cause all the same problems? Am I missing something? Are paint and varnish that much more permeable? Or just easier to strip?
I'm leaning toward paint on the exterior and varnish or paint on the interior (depending on the quality of the work). The boat will be garage kept. Hull material is 1/4" Hydrotech/Meranti.

Next steps- rough the keelson and keel, assemble mold.
