Just found out that David died last year at age 52.
(don't know if this has been posted already?)
David and his wife Lynda ran Fairways Marine, a small business that for the last forty years has supported and serviced Stuart Turner marine engines and parts (among other things)- largely it seems because of a passion for the old engines and its company and a desire to keep the history of their engines alive.
Obviously a tragedy for David and his family, and also a sadness and great shame for Stuart Turner owners and enthusiasts.
David was nice enough a couple of years back to take the time (totally un-asked) to search through his archives of paperwork and tell me the precise history of my particular engine- simply as I had posted my engine number.
your engine was sold to Dan Webb and Feesey a very well known boat builder in England for many years.manufactured in October 1946. as a P55m 8HP @1500rpm.
complete with stern gear it has had a few trips back to the factory during the 50s and 60s for repairs
We do as Tim suggests hold all records for every single Stuart engine ever made and do normally have a small charge for this as it takes a while to dust off the books but in this case given with our compliments
Kindest regards
David What a nice guy heh?
It seems that Fairways marine is now not operating and attempts by Lynda to find a buyer to keep the Stuart Turner side of the business going have been unsuccessful.
ClassicBoat have this small article (http://www.ybw.com/auto/newsdesk/20080218160941cbnews.html) from a few months back, claiming an update in their May edition.
If anyone has the 2008 May edition, I would greatly appreciate any updates.
