Just got back from a beautiful sail, probably 10 - 12 knots of wind moving Nanoose smartly along...
What made it really special is that I could finally go for a sail with my Dad. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time...
We both really had a blast, but it was more than that too.
Here's my Dad, keeping us on course

Nice shot and it looks like he's enjoying it all.:) I hope he wears a big hat the next time. Older folks (like me ) still have to watch out for the sun.;)

A wonderful moment. I always tried to get my dad sailing, but my parent's idea of a small boat was the Queen Mary. I have always regretted that the biggest part of my youth was something that I couldn't share with them, and they knew absolutely nothing about it.

Thanks for the replies!
My Dad grew up sailing and vividly remembers spending a summer aboard a 100+ ft Herreshof yawl when he was seventeen. He tried to get my brother and I interested in sailing when we were teenagers but we were much more interested in water skiing and going fast. I only began to sail within the last decade and we really haven't had much time on the water together and never alone.
The sail we shared yesterday was a really great moment, one I know I'm very thankful to have had. It wasn't that we talked about deep, important things, it was just being out together and sharing something that we really love that made it memorable.
Tabitha, you're right, we need to treasure our parents, life goes by much too fast.
JD, I tried to get him to wear a hat but he believes that since he lives in Florida that he's somehow immune to the harmful rays. Dumb, I know, but when can sons change their fathers' minds?
Schooner Rat, I'm sorry...I know what it means to share sailing with those that are important to you...but if not you parents, you can still share it with friends. Sailing is too wonderful to keep to ourselves.
Fair winds...

Exactly why I became a charter boat captain. Well, partly anyway. It's also pretty cool to sail a big old wooden boat---and let somebody else pick up the tab---but the hundreds of "thank yous for the trip of a lifetime" certainly warmed the heart of my cockles!
My parents couldn't have enjoyed the experience, but I've done what I can to share my love of boats with family, friends, and any stranger with the price of admission.

What a wonderful day you had, -sailing with your father. A memory of a treasured moment to last a lifetime.
Those moments are so uplifting... Time spent in a joyous silence, just being together with a loved one, enjoying life, togetherness and the moment. It can't get better than that...
Hope you have many more enjoyable times sailing with him...:)
