Things are good by most measure Milo. I am struggling but have enough to get the boat launched next week. My Sister in law passed Yesterday morning and I wish her well on the other side and pray she is at peace. I will be seeing the rest of the family at the Wake so that is a good thing under terrible circumstances. Right now I am scrambling to get the boat ready.
I spent the night on Stevens Talisman on launch day as Mary was leaving for a trip that next morning and I wanted Steven to be able to spend time with her. I see many small things as precious now.
I stood on the dock near midnight looking across the bay at a big beautiful orange moon and had a good cry and replenished my soul.
I started smoking again a few days back but its ok. I may toss them into the bay when I move aboard full time or I may not. It doesn't seem to matter much anymore.
I see the lynch mob is still hard at it as several new punching bags have been found to tear into. I will not be posting anymore here on the forum soon, I think my warnings went out to those who need to hear and at this point I see no point in going further.
I may post one C&P before I go and have been debating it for a bit now but I haven't come to any firm conclusions.
Thats it. Hope all is well on your side.

So sorry to hear about your SIL. We are prepared to fly to Richmond, VA at a moments notice if Marilyn's SIL passes soon, which is possible.

Go sailing. Take care of yourself. Be well.

Mark, I hope you stick around. If not, thanks for trying to shed some light on many serious topics that uninformed people try so hard to avoid. This country needs many more who are willing to do the research and educate such as yourself before it gets really, really ugly. True Patriots. In the true spirit of being an American.
And to all out there who get there information only from network news, you need to realize that you are seriously underinformed. Get your news. Dont be given the news.

Thanks again Mark.

Mark, good to have you back. I don't think you'll ever leave. That's not an indictment, just my gut. What's the first thing you did when your banishment was lifted? You started posting. Doesn't seem like the actions of a fellow who's going anywhere.

And that's great, because I'd love to see some of your sailing pics soon.

Yup, trying as hard as he can, Bernanke doesn't seem to be able to stop the decline of that Bank index.....

Around here there are more bank offices on street corners than gas stations, so it looks like they've oversaturated the market....don't know why so many physical offices are needed, with EFT payrolls, on-line banking, automatic mortgage payment withdrawals, cash machines, credit cards, etc.

Someone is going to be hurtin' before this is all over:D

Looking at that chart makes me gringe...

I know nothing about stocks and I just inherited a HUGE amount of stocks in Wärtsilä and about a large amount of shares in Nordea bank (large European bank) among other stocks...

Wärtsilä manufactures diesel engines for ships and powern plants.
Link here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C3%A4rtsil%C3%A4

Will these stocks be worthless?

What to do with them???

JBreeze

If the inheritied stocks are worth a substantial amount of money, you should get some professional advice from someone you can trust, while you're still in Finland.

I general, banks worldwide have had some major losses, because they invested in US financial assets....a couple German banks have gone under, a British bank, even UBS, which is a swiss bank with international interests, has had some significant write-offs.

Maybe your bank has been more prudent.

The diesel company sounds interesting, but who knows?

In addition, tax implications may become significant.....if you become cautious and sell, which tax law applies to you? Finland or US? Which rate is more favorable?

Lots of stuff to think about.

PS Here is a link to Wartsila's stock chart....they've performed VERY well over the past 5 years:

http://www.wartsila.com/,en,investors,irservice,irservices,3B82A70E-22CD-4E04-B6E0-D0658F07B535,E8A08E83-9EF1-4A37-95EB-D53FE78DB609,,.htm

Nordea:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordea

Share chart:

http://www.nordea.com/Investor+Relations/Share+and+shareholders/Share+graph+in+Html/904312.html

The five year limit on the graphs was all I could find......just remember, almost everything world-wide has done very well since 2003 (the bottom of the US markets, too).

Signing off and going fishing........

Thanks for the info.

They are substantial... Our private investment adviser in the bank doesn't give enough info. I think she might be just interested on having the stocks transferred to where they can handle/keep them.

What kind of person do I turn to?

Sorry about the thread drift...

Myself I own nothing. I carry one silver dollar so I always know I have real money with me. My ex got the house and the rest of what I had has gone to the kids education so I am busted now. Doesn't matter because what you own ends up owning you. My friend who was very much a day trader and very successful got out last year on top. He plays a very limited role now. He keeps 25% of his worth in portable gold and silver. Most of it was bought back at 250 so he has done well.
He says that the markets cannot be trusted anymore because of the fed hiding m3 and some other issues so he got out almost completely
