I'm looking for any information that you folks might have on these. The reason, one is in an old wooden boat for sale that I can't seem to stop myself from going to have a look at.
A bit of googling turns up a bit but not much. The engine in the boat is a 3 cylinder 2 stroke Cerlist, which I see used to be used in military jeep cargo vehicles in the 50s and 60s. Looks like they turn about 85 hp at 3000 rpms. Other than that, there's not much info out there. I did see that some filters etc. are still available...

So are we talking hen's teeth here
According to my guy here in the shop, the Cerlist diesels have a bit in common with detroit 3/52's. But he says that if any major parts go bang, then it is up to you to fab a new part.
So yeah, hen's teeth. In 22 years, he's only worked on 3 Cerlist 3's. He says one was in a converted wooden lifeboat near Comox. Is that the one you are going to look at?

That sounds like an excellent reason not to buy one :-)

That's what I was worried about soba :( The only info I can find on the net is hard core jeep nuts restoring jeep cargo trucks from the 50s that have these engines.
The boat that I was looking at is in Pt McNeill. Its in the buy sell and trade right now, a 28 foot Grenfell. The hull looks OK but its got a but ugly house on it...
Mmmm...run and hide is my advice. Buddy in the shop says drop a Subaru 4 cyl into it. He figures now that gas is cheaper than diesel, and gas engines are cheaper than diesel engines...
Saw a Subaru Legacy engine on usedvictoria for $500...
