Mercury 4HP - What year?

Could someone help me to find the year of my outboard Mercury 4HP, serie no. OD996959?

Check with Mercury on-line.....
your serial number should be useful for that......

Don't know if the serial number willl cut it. There shoud be a model number close by

I got a date for my HD 15 Johnson in short order. It was made in 1940.
They also have experienced repairman to give troubleshooting advice.

It appears to be a 1995 or 1996.

According to thid site http://www.maxrules.com/merc_contents.html should be manufacured after 1996... 1997 maybe. Unfortunately the serial numbers stops at 1996 for 4HP motors.
