Here is a little 10 foot sailing skiff I have designed and built.

Thanks to Warren I realized how fun small boat sailing is and how much I missed it.

The skiff is a very simple flatbottom type of boat and the sail and rigg can easily be bought at the nearest Marin store. The jib is an old Fireball jib that I modified.

Nice. There is much to be said for a small boat. One would get used when moving, rigging and launching a bigger boat would seem like too much work for a couple of hours on the water.

Yes Norm If you "just" likes to sail a small boat is realy handy

The Optimist rig is quite OK and you can buy them dirt cheep everywhere. I extended the mast with 300 mm 1 foot. I also added stays. The boat realy needs the jib it is a bit to big for just the mainsail. And the jib also makes the boat better balanced and faster

I've been looking at this one........

....it's 11 ft. but seems like the perfect small boat. Sail, row or power.

Optimists are used as test beds for trying new concepts in gear and sailing, so this mod looks very appropriate.

Optomists aren't a well known boat in Oz and Opti mods are fewer. Many world class sailors have done their yards in Optis and credit the class. I'm not deceived by your relaxed attitude in your boat Hans.

I think that I read that John B was given an Optomist, Opti sailors will be envious of your jib.

Congratulations and fair winds, I hope she sails well, she looks good and it is good to see a power sail added to an Optimist rig.

Warren.

For Hwyl, Mike and others; My reference to September came about because Hans was in New Hampshire at the Newfound Lake rendzvous last year.

This is a link to his photo album of the visit:

http://www.friedeldesign.se/usa2003.htm

It will happen again this year so mark your calendar for September 17,18,19th.

It's a 1963 Richardson Sinbad.

Richardson, eh? Canvas covered?

Looks like some AOMCA member hung put the little beater on the back just 'cuz he had an old motor and an old boat. No way that boat with that motor is a good idea, IMO. Buy the boat, let him keep the motor. Old Mercuries are for the real hard core enthusiast anyway...

It's a pretty little dink, though.

I agree about the motor John.
It's a 5HP and probably really heavy.
A trolling motor would push that boat as fast as I wanna go.
