View Full Version : Cypress for frames and strip planking?

Has anyone had any luck working with cypress? I want to use it on a 26ft v-hull powerboat and I was wondering about strength, holding fastners, and epoxy? I'm in the south so there is a lot of it around. Thanks!

The same oiliness that makes cypress rot resistant also keeps it from gluing as well as say fir. There are new epoxies available for gluing oily woods but they are quite expensive. I used cypress for trimming out both the houses I built and it was great for that but for a 26' powerboat something like fir is lighter and will glue stronger. With gas prices going up and up, stronger and lighter is the way to go.
