We just found out today that our boat Weatherly will not launch until late June (at least). Concordia has not been able to keep the schedule. We were promised a launch by this Memorial day a year ago.
We both saved all of our vacation time this year to be available while she settled during June. We must take our vacations in June even though she won't be in the water.
I know there are others here in the forum who have felt this way. Sorry for bothering you all with this but I can't stop crying.

Come sail with us. It won't be the same, but it'll be sailing.

So sorry Sharon but such is the way of some boatyards. Hope to see launching pics at Mystic.
Be well,

Bummer. Just a big old bummer. :( On the bright side is the knowledge that they are doing things right and not cutting any corners. And knowing that she'll be like new and won't need a major restoration like this again for another 50 years.

Get a couple of dinks and sail back and forth in front of their yard. Make your own course with detergent bottle buoys and then layout an "Americas Cup" course too so you can fly back and forth if it gets too windy! No point in wasting good vacation time! Invite some friends - now you gotta gotta, gotta regatta! Plan a lobster bake!
Hey, can I come?

Ditto.. I'll bge spending time in your neck of the woods this year.
I understand completely how you feel and what you are going through. Airlie was promised in early May. The yard did not complete the work n her until August 15th.. Yup, understand..

Arggh!!! Better than rushing and cutting corners though!
For my own work I hate deadlines because they so interfere with a proper job. I am saddened by the disruption of your plans. As was suggested get a dink and circumnavigate the harbor.

Or get a drink and circumcise the delayers....
Seriously, hope that when she does launch you are pleased as punch with the final work. Fair winds!

I am terribly sorry. I hate it that you are so upset about this, and I know how it feels, but if I understand your post they are only going to be off by about 5-10% of their quoted delivery date. In this day and age that's not bad at all.
The guys working on my Dragon don't have that problem. You'll get it when you get it :) (but they do great work and are good friends of mine. I am not complaining). I have pretty much forgotten about Dragon sailing this year.

Thanks for all the kind words of support.
The news hit me harder than it would have normally. I needed something to look forward to. Doesn't matter now anyway.
Thanks again.

Spend weekends on her. Go to her for dinners, and for impromptu moments. After you break her in, you'll find that she works well as a hide-away. Take naps on her. Use her that way until you can take your big cruise. Works really well.

Sorry that you won't be able to sail her during your vacation.:( I understand your disappointment having waited so long for her to be ready to launch and planning your vacation around her....
You have a couple of nice invitations to go sail with friends.:)
... and Lew's idea above sounds lovely...:D
Sharon, I have the feeling that you can still have a fine vacation and Weatherly will be there for you a bit later...:)

So how much vacation time? What have you always wanted to do but never had enough time?

Will you now be able to make the WBS? Be sure to see me if you do!

We really appreciate all of the ideas and encouragement. We plan to use many of your suggestions, and will bring photos to the WBS. Part of our plan is to vicariously experience this by going to a friend's launching of a of a fully restored Buzzards Bay 30 (Mashnee). I have heard that "greens" are good for a launching. Does anyone have any suggestions of things we could bring to the proud owner for the launch. Since we are from Bristol and the Herreshoff is only 100 yards from our house I was thinking that maybe a small stone from the wharf area might be nice, but I didn't know what others would suggest.

I would be inclined to borrow or buy a couple of sit on top kayaks, put them on the car, and go exploring somewhere warm.

If it were me, I'd appreciate a cigar, or maybe a good bottle of rum. But that's me. Maybe they'd like a cake and some coffee, a good cruising guide of your area, or perhaps an inclinometer. Any of that stuff would probably be appreciated at a launch. Another nice thing is a guest book or a nice log.

I could never afford to have someone else to work on my boat, so I have never been able to blame anyone but me for a late launch..:D

Thousands of people have had vacation plans changed to to COSTS and availability of materials and lack of labor etc.,.
You are not alone.
But some people will still SIT ON THEIR ASS during the election and do nothing!! (.....i am not really interested in politics, It does not matter who you vote for etc.,etc.)
The people who have stocks in CHEVRON etc.,. do not care - they are raking in dividends right now. They are laughing all the way to the bank.
