Looking for pictures of good examples of cockpit coamings...I wish to have a short fore-deck with a coaming around it fairing aft into a coaming that hugs the side of the boat pretty closely (only a very narrow side deck) and the coaming would extend aft and do something...looking for more ideas.
I did find this example and really like it

Trying to figure out how this coaming fairs into the stem. I want the cozy feel of the cockpit without a total side deck to take away interior space. My fore deck would be small...the mast (lug) would step through it...

How about a coaming like a Haven's?

Doesn't extend to the bow but I made this coaming by steaming mahogony.

nice job with the mahogany swimd, it has been a pain for me in the past on far less of a radius, mabey yours is relatively thinner than I was bending.
Clint describe this skiff a little more, wider than a dory? is it cat rigged? how about stepping the mast just inside the coaming then you dont have to ballance in the bow trying to get the mast in?
How about taking a coaming direct from Gardner or Chapelle and tweaking it to fit your boat.
Im in the middle of a BHOD mast repair, very cool mast 28'6" hollow box section, thats the way Ill do it if I get to build an IB 26'

I like the way the coamings were set up on the older Lightnings. In the front they form a v with the mast stepped just inside the apex and the legs of the v sweep past the side coamings. These side coamings go past the cockpit opening by 6" or so. There are pics on the Lightning Class page, search 'wooden'.
