I was just reading a post on Resources / Product Search and “The Chemist” name popped up and it prompted me to think that I haven’t read any of his/her replies recently, does anybody know of his/her where abouts? as I miss the informative and incisive comments.

He has been gone for months. I saw no indication here that he was leaving. I hope he left because he saw no more value to hanging around here rather than some illness, accident or what ever.

Maybe he has simply exhausted his cranial capacity here. I have had the great pleasure of reading his many posts covering such a breadth of chemistry/coating related info, that maybe he has covered all he can cover (or so it seems, based on his prolific writings).
I had a short career as a coatings chemist myself, and I do miss him, even though I have been scarcely on the forum lately.
Thank God for the "search the archives" section.

Golly, I miss him too. I've got his e-mail address, maybe I'll try it. He was one of the good ones, especially when a chemistry question arose, but in various discussions. smile.gif
Am I mistaken, or was there a general bashing of Scientology that went on? I know he was a reader in if not a follower of Hubbard. Had the sense his nose got out of joint over it a couple times. I could be wrong.
Perhaps he just had a bad reaction! :D

Maybe there haven´t been interesting enough discussions on paint and stuff lately. On the other hand, he was the man who used to make them interesting, to a large extent. I miss him, too.
The chemist went missing for a period a while back. He then reappeared.
Maybe it is work related, all those experiments - vanished in a puff of epoxy vapour
But I do miss his indepth answers and chemical humor

The Chemist was chased away by the idiot Democrats in the Misc section. Another great loss due to the ineptness of the moderator.

You may well be right about him being chased away however have a look at the top of the page...

This forum is a service provided by WB magazine. I have no doubt they get a collateral advantage by providing it but there is no direct financial reason why they should . There's no need to take pot shots at them and in fact, attitudes like that could quite easily lose it for all of us.

And sticking your head in the sand John, only makes it worse.

It would take more than a few idiots (Democrat or Republican) to chase away thechemist. For whatever reasons he is gone, it is a group loss for we are all the poorer and less knowledgable.
As to your comments on the moderator's ineptness, JayBoat, it's by the moderator's huge volume for tolerance that this forum even exists and idiots like you are allowed to post.
Now I'll gladly go sit in the penalty box for the personal attack

There is an organised group in the misc. section that emails any and all precieved infractions to the "moderator". The "moderator" unable to do a proper job, relys upon these emails to ban anyone that is consevative and/or pro President Bush. Thus, they are controlling the "audience". Many have left this forum due to this. Read above, Chemist was a follower of Ron L. Hubbard and was chased away. Only he can state why....but many others have left here also.

How do you know this? You are accusing WB of supporting political bias.
I dont think they are doing that.
The administration may have removed posters or postings for infractions of the terms of use.
The term 'idiot democrats' tends to show where your bias lies.

Ah well.....
anyway, I hope I didn't contribute to his leaving in august 2003 by earlier discovering that his name was Hal (last featured in one of Asimovs books.)
Why... ( reminiscing here now), I remember one particular discussion on physics where I demonstrated my phenomenal grasp of the science. He stated a theory ( some fancy scottish name.. the mcgregorcanoe theory or sumthing) where it is postulated that as an object approaches the speed of light it foreshortens.
I then hypoth... hypothet... said that since the object.. say a human being for example, would shorten as it approached lightspeed then logically it should actually be totally flat at lightspeed and would actually invert and turn inside out past lightspeed. This would of course , be very messy.
I know that the chemist was particularly impressed with this point . I suspect he's probably left to further research the principle but its just taking a bit longer than expected.

The chemist was recalled by the committee. It is rumored that he is studying various aspects of gronicle theory that had not been previously been considered, and which had been suggested in an obscure dialog among a certain group of pilgrims.

Hay guys, I thought this was about boats. You know a lot of people not in the USA read this. We don't care about US polocies unless it floats.
Take it to the bilge please

Please take all that to the bilge!
The "Chemist" is effectively an interesting and knowledgeable person who has put a lot of personnal effort in helping people that were asking for help in fields he did master well.
Scot is responsible of the "Store" at WBM, but happens to have, too, the necessary skills for maintaining this site and the the good (technical) functionning of this forum. This costs him time and efforts. For this he should only be thanked, and certainely not attacked by some persons coming in this part of the WBF to unload their bile.
Personnal attacks to whoever that is are not welcome but by a few who seem to have fun in this exercise, and they use the "bilge" for that. But even there, any attack to Scot is miserable, for he just might get bored of such beheaviour, and just switch off the whole thing.
Quite happpily, this forum is kept for boat loving people - quite preferably in wood ;) - and for people like "Chemist" and all their kind help to others.
Thank you Scot, Chemist, and all...
