so, for the lower deadey, which traditionally is held in place with a steel or iron band, or rod, what are the alternatives?

I don't have the means or the know how to bend and shape steel parts like that, so I was thinking of making a short S. S. strop with nicopress eyes at either end.

This strop could be bent around the lower deadeye and bolted through the eyes to the chainplate or stem fitting.

what do you guys think? If it's a good idea, I'll turn the deadeyes this weekend, and trial fit the strop.

Thad here is a link to some deadeye plans for the weekender.

I made deadyes out of 5/4-Oak with 1"-wide X about 8"-long stainless strap from Boat-US bent around the perimeter.

Lower deadeyes are secured to the chainplates with shackles, bolts, with jam nuts. Top deadeyes are fastened to the loop in the shrouds the same way.

The oak is finished with Deks Olje 1 & 2.

All very simple and very rugged.

Be aware that the Weekender deadeyes are for fun. The drawing in Chad's pdf file does not show their correct shape, nor the way they were rigged. (I guess you'd call this Stevenson version an "artist's representation" of the true thing,,,,)
