Long-standing members will remember the Great WBF Meltdown from around the end of 2001. You might also remember that Nora, the Administrator of the By-The-Sea Forums, very kindly volunteered to host WBF traffic for several weeks until Scot and his team were able to get the new Forum up and running.

Alas, By-The-Sea has just posted a message here (http://www.everythingboats.com/catboat/forum/bbs.pl?read=7664) to the effect that Nora passed away near the end of April. Unfortunately I don't have any further details.

Those of us who knew Nora knew what a lovely person she was, how well she managed the By-The-Sea forums, and how ready she was to help others in the boating community.

Requiescat in pace, Nora.

Mike

Thanks for letting us know. Yes I remember when we gathered over there, for a brief spell. She was a great administrator and always a pleasure to swap mails with to. She ran a great ship.
RIP.

EASTHAM — Nora W. Scanlan, 63, died in Eastham on Saturday, April 26, 2008, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Born in Lorain, Ohio, Nora lived in Princeton, N.J., and Cambridge, before moving to Eastham in 1997, where she and her husband operated the Web services business By-The-Sea.
A passionate gardener, talented artist, creative chef, and innovative businesswoman, Nora cultivated the beauty in everyday life. She was an extraordinary mother, wife, and friend. She brought out the best in everyday people.
Those whose lives she touched will always remember her honesty, compassionate insight, irresistible laugh, and human touch.
Besides her husband, David S. Watson, she is survived by her daughter, Laura E. Watson of Boston; and two sisters, Lois Miller of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Charlotte Lucky of Houston, Texas.
There will be a private gathering of friends and family to celebrate Nora's life.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Nora W. Scanlan Scholarship Fund, MassArt Foundation, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, 621 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115.

There's an almost identical entry in the Cambridge Chronicle too.

Sorry to hear this; a gracious hostess in a time of need. She is, and will be, missed.
