I have got a 1963 Maynard. It is a rounded chine with some dry rot throuth the top corners of the transom, I have decided to replace the whole thing. Keep in mind the plank ends are probably gone to. What is the easiest way to start this monsterous task???

With a chainsaw.

Bob almost had it right, start with taking many pictures of the transom, make some templates of the shape of transom, take more pictures :D . Then when you develop enough courage  , Fire-up the chainsaw & go to town! If things look ugly during the 1st phase of demolition, look at the pictures for inspiration. ;)

Seriously - Is there any thought or discussion on the wisdom of shortening the boat by say 4 inches or so, to get to the good planking ?
