"Life's too short to own an ugly boat"

Or so goes the advertising line for the boatyard I start work at next week:

They are building a series of the new Hurricane Island pulling boats http://www.rodgermartindesign.com/portfolio.php?item=30 and are in the running to build a class of French daysailers for the US market (assuming the dollar doesn't strengthen).

I'm looking forward to it. A real nice crew.

In other news, there's a rumor that Rockport Marine will be exclusively licensed to build K. Aage Nielsen designs. Quite a coup and good luck to them. I saw this yawl at their dock yesterday. One of the biggest tiller-steered boats I've seen.

Notice the sardine carrier Joseph Pike and the brightwork Concordia in the background. (Some 'background', huh?)

A beautiful line up there. Congrats!
There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled.

      Congratulations and good luck!
Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

Congratulations David. Here's to fulfillment at your new job!
One of the most enduring qualities of an old wooden boat is the smell it imparts to your clothing.

As we've learned from the Bush administration: sometimes ugly has a purpose. Here we see how the raised deck/coach roof abomination that sits atop the Coronado 27 adds to the ultimate stability of the craft. Ugly or safe?

Beauty of a boat! Has anybody told that guy that he's got his masts on backwards?

Good luck with the new job. I'm more than a bit jealous.

Everything! But not much painting and varnishing probably... not my strong suit.

I was thinking the same thing.

Right! I saw that a while ago on the Covey Island website. It kind of looks like a toy boat with that thing.

You hijacked your own thread, I see Southport mostly builds stinkpots these days, and are planning on a fibreglass Handy Billy.

You're much better off there than at Rockport, I'm not sure I'd go to sea again on anything worked on by Rockport Marine
