Hiyas,

I'm in an odd spot and would appreciate any advice etc.

I have a 30' 1938 McIntosh wooden gaff-rigger (re-hulled and new engine in 2007). It's currently in York, Maine.

The Harbor master has been glaring at me because the fancy plastic boats are due to arrive any moment. I've put myself on several lists, but so far haven't secured a mooring for the summer.

Anyone out there: (a) with a mooring, but no boat who wants to make a deal? or (b) with good advice on where to find a mooring?

To complicate matters, I work as the asst. director of a summer camp, so I have no free time at all, 24-7 in June, July and half of August.

I've working building and repairing boats for 5 years. They only reason I have a boat is because the boss let me rebuild this one in the back of the shop. (Hence, not a gazillionaire.) I'm already nearly broke, so anything I could afford would have to be under $1000 or on an installment plan. I've never had a large boat before, and I'm not quite sure how the whole harbor-mooring-paperwork thing plays out.

Any ideas?

-Cullen

Is your boat in the water now? Try advertising for a mooring on Maine Craigslist http://maine.craigslist.org/boa/ or in Uncle Henry's http://www.unclehenrys.com/ . Be sure to mention the size of your boat. There's one listed for rent for $400 in Brooklin (on the Blue Hill peninsula) but when would you be able to get it or use it there? http://maine.craigslist.org/boa/641152158.html or this one (same person?) http://maine.craigslist.org/boa/618649609.html

Good luck-

Hi Cullen - I've got one in Damariscotta, new last year, #3000 block. No boat on it till (hopefully) next year. It was placed with a 25' LOD Friendship in mind. 32' LOA, 4'6" draft, #8000 displacement. It's 14 miles up the river, in sight of the village. I would want to check with the harbormaster to see if it'd be ok to put your boat on it, but PM me if you're interested. My fee would be to take me sailing! :)

There's a chance that I'll end up with an extra mooring in Marion, MA. Won't know for a couple of weeks. If interested. contact me off-list.

I'm in between boats with my new boat not ready for the water. The mooring was set up for a 28ft, 3 ft 9" draft. Oh yea, located in Portland. PM me if your interested.

I'm moored in Portland, too. If your boat ends up here I'd be happy to keep an eye on it. Will you have any days off for sailing?
