Any good threads here that discuss lead casting for ballast? I am interested in lead procurment through casting a lead shoe that bolts to the deadwood. My casting is about 1000#.

This past summer I bought a salvage boat with about four tons of ballast casting. The best price I could get was around .23/pound, which is half what I sold lead for twenty years ago.
None of the foundries which used to buy scrap were interested. Everyone has jobbed lead casting to a company in Canada.
I'd look around boat yards for derelicts with lead ballast. You can also do the rounds and get wheel weights, but they are not so nice to work with. I think all the linotype lead is gone by now. I would not fool around with scrap batteries, because you have to dispose of all the other parts.
