In Gardner's Dory book, there are a series of pictures demonstrating the attachment of frames to bottom of a dory. In the first picture, the fore and aft frames appear to be attached at angle .. not square to the flat bottom. In the next picture, as the bottom is sprung in place over a form, the frames are shown (as they should be) perpendicular to base line.

Here's my question .. how does one calculate that angle of attachment? .. I have figured out a way to do the job but am guessing someone has already done it faster and better. The same question would also apply to fore and aft stems

You can pick up the angle directly from the profile view of the lofting using a bevel gauge.

Thanks Jon .. walking to YMCA over lunch it dawned on me that I had the answer on the floor of the shop .. spent the weekend lofting all pertinent parts .. including inside bottom ... thank you.

I agree with Jon on this. The proper thing to do is to have lofted the boat and then to pick up the angle from the lofting...
