View Full Version : Wanted to borrow for 10 minutes: grommet tools in Seattle area

Anybody in the Seattle area have a set of grommet setting tools? I'm putting in a reef point on my spritsail.

I was able to use CWB's grommet setting tools for the no. 2 grommets along the nettles. But they don't have anything larger for the tack and clew grommets.

I'm not sure what size I'll be setting for the tack and clew. But it will definitely be larger than a No. 2.

My main sheet is 3/8th inch, so the grommet will need to be able to handle that size. (I haven't bought the grommets yet for those items, because it'll have to match someone's tools.)

Thanks!
Tim

Didn't someone here post about using a couple of trailer balls and a hammer as a grommet tool?

I've done a search, but there's 3,200 entries to look through. Not exactly the most powerful search tool I've ever encountered. (Not that I'm complaining, of course.)

I'll look again.

No. That was for making round thimbles from copper or brass pipe.

I'll lend you mine when you come up in May if you can't find anything before then. . . .

. . . but check with the CWB, I'm sure somebody there will have a notion where to find such a thing in Seattle.

Good job adding reef points before you need them!

Thanks James ... I'm pretty positive I've arranged to borrow a set.

Generally, there's always somebody at CWB with the answer ... or more accurately, an answer.

You're a good man, Chuck. Thanks! Because of you, I'll be sure to reef early and often, but not too early or too often.

The generosity of Paladin and many others on this forum never ceases to amaze me. And I'm happy about that.

Even better than a "smacked" grommet (mostly becos' I can never tell if I smacked it too much or too little)...

Chuck, I just got them earlier today (around 3 p.m Friday PST). Thanks so much. The half inch should work fine. Man, this is great. Thanks so much.

By the way, what's your t-shirt size? I'll need something to pad the set on the return trip.
