I just found this web site. Interesting project, seems like they were/are well organized and funded.

Well, Dave, since you brought it up, I was down there 2 weekends ago. I didn't want to tell because I couldn't get any pics due to a digital camera malfunction (translated: I forgot to put the mem card back in the stupid thing). I will be there for the launching as a birthday gift. I will be sure to have two cameras that day.

So I have yet another dumb/obvious question: I'm guessing the "Whisky plank" is named because it's the last plank hung, and whisky is broken out to celebrate?

Ayup, dat dere viskey plankt is da lastes von put in der hull, ya sure ya betcha!
Small yards just a brief stop for a shot or two.
Fancy Schmancy yachit yards might have a big spread put out by the new owner. Hors de orves, Champangey,Rum, Viskey.
PS: if memory serves that is technically referred to as the 'Shutter Plank'.

The frames are glued laminated white oak made by Sentinel Structures, Inc. in Peshtigo, WI, my employer! We are currently working on addtional replacement materials for Old Ironides.

Well, no whisky for me! I was unable to get the day off due to an all hands meeting. I guess my next move is to push for an overnight team-building charter on Virginia for our group. (It would be so pleasing to see some of my colleagues chumming over rail)

Great site! Thanks for the tip, Dave.
Andreas, I'm curious about the laminated frames. Was there a reason why they were laminated as they were, requiring some bend to the laminations, rather than side-by-side as with traditional futtocks? I have no idea why the apparently more difficult lay up was used, but I gather there must have been some good reason. I expect fairing the frame bevels with plane would be easier without grain running in two directions, but in a boat this size, and an electric plane, I doubt that could have been the reason. Give us some info about those laminated frames!
