View Full Version : A Horrible Shaving Incident

So yesterday I was working putting in the docks at our boat club and the grizzled goatee wearing chrome dome you have all grown to love is looking exceptionally gnarly ;)

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m320/fosterhere/IMG_0395-1.jpg

So this morning I went to the gym, worked out, took a shower and decided to give myself a little trim and neaten up a bit for my shift behind the stick today. Oh and I'm going down to see Tabitha for a week in VA ;)

So with a nice wet beard I get out my electric trimmer. Trim down a bit. Oh its a little off center, trim a little more, now its off center the other way. trim, trim, trim trim, shave , trim, shave trim, shave.

And this is the results, Im not happy I don't like me without a lil facial hair :(

If a pigeon insists on sitting on your head, it'll only be instinct, don't take personal.

Bad time of year to go around like that.

Tell Tabitha that you're not Joe ("He couldn't make it.") but his twin brother "Jim". Be very solicitous and tell her stories about growing up with "Joe", focusing on endearing and adventurous things he did that she doesn't know about yet.

From my experience (when I once shaved my beard unexpectedly) it will be both a little bit frightening and exciting for her. She'll know it's really you but the novelty will be intriguing.

GAWD! PUT IT BACK!
True story.......Before I met Irina......
I had the apartment overlooking the harbor at Reykjavik.....was chasing around with a lady whom I had been spending quite a bit of time with.....
When I first went to Iceland I had been "invited" there by NIS in reference to a drug smuggling problem, so I took over as the weenie in charge of Dye 5, the communications facility....I arrived with a lot of hair and a lot of beard, sorta hippy style....everyone was my friend....I did trim the beard in keeping with my "position".....
said lady was an overnight guest.....
One morning the shoe was gonna drop...had the goods on the perps...they thought they were clear.....that morning I awoke, she was still asleep.....went to the head, trimmed my hair close with the clippers, shaved off the beard and mustache, laid out a dress suit, polished shoes etc.....made some coffee.....she woke up....panicked...looked for Chuck.....wouldn't believe it was me, almost left the apartment in her ...uh......altogether....she couldn't get outta there fast enough.....was a couple/three weeks before friends convinced her it was really me......by then...........

exactly what I was thinking. Nahh, goatees are odd. Go for the moustache next, leave the chin for a full beard. All that matters is a smile and you got the look.

Bet ya chin feels wet! I shaved mine off before I left old Melbourne town in '95... That lasted 7 years before I grew it back... So glad I did... Looks better and less to shave. That wet chin feeling lasted about 6 weeks after though...

Glad you're growing it back... I'm only just getting used to the new avatar!

My goatee doesn't have a fair curve along the bottom and it drives me nuts. But I know that if I start trying to fix it I'll end up bare again. I tend to lose sideburns that way. One side will be too long, so I try to fix it, take too much, fix the other side, continue until nothing is left.

Michael s/v Sannyasin
04-06-2008, 11:18 PM
Wait... Joe, don't miss this golden opportunity. Instead of that tired old goatee, why don't you grow that time honored Maine Sea Captian's beard (sans moustache).

Tomorrow... when I get a chance... out comes the photoshop. You'll see. I got a good feeling about this ;-)

Michael Beckman

I dunno, beards and bald heads don't really mix. I think a goatee is about the only facial hair that looks right with it.

I used to cut my own hair with the clippers. Five or six times over the years I would screw it up and shave it all off with the #2's. One day my wife told me that she never wanted to see me like that again.

You know, sometimes you have to know which battles you can win and which battles you can lose. I haven't cut my own hair for awhile now.

reminds me of my dad,,he's been trimming his own beard for the last couple years. When a home health aid came by to visit we mentioned going to the barber,,she said "and get your beard trimmed too?"
dad: "oh no, I do that myself"

a couple years ago he looked like an older version of Saddam out of the pit.

An extremely vain and narcissistic woman had had so many face lifts that one day the plastic surgeon said he couldn't do another one on her.

"But I do have a new procedure that let's you do your own face lifts when you want to do them. If you want, I'll install a dial on the back of your neck, under your hair. You can turn the dial whenever you want to lift and tighten your face." The woman, of course, agreed immediately to the new procedure.

Several months later the woman came back to the plastic surgeon complaining of bags under her eyes. The plastic surgeon took a look and told her: "Those aren't bags, they're your breasts."

The woman shrugged and said, "Well I guess that explains the gottee then, doesn't it."
