Can anyone explain why there have been 3 Eun Mara's for sale on OZ in the past year? Coincidence? What? There's a new one listed at Duck Flats right now.

I honestly don't know, Gert. I do know that one was built by a man who's health failed about the time he finished the boat. Something like that. Perhaps the other two were spec. built. Just curious is all. Makes you want to fly to OZ and sail her home. Or shoehorn one in a container headed for the West Coast.

Running the cabinsides forward of the cabin front is an old fashoined detail that I've read is handy for the momentary storage of a dockline , sailstop, or fender .

I told you guys about the boats Peter Brookes has been sending to NZ from the UK and Seychelles in containers?. Didn't sound very dear either( relatively) I think it was $5000.00 NZ from the UK.
Thats about US$7.50 I think.

Venchenka,
I do know that when all was said and done, (I believe) Mike found his Eun Mara to be too much boat for the kind of sailing he wanted to do. I don't know why Doug has his boat up for sale. Believe me, this gives me a little concern as my boat nears completion (launch late summer- 2005)!
Maybe they liked building more than sailing.
I don't believe that there's a problem with the design, the prototype got rave reviews, as did the cold-moulded one in Watercraft. Paul F. absolutely raves about the way his handles.
Different strokes, I guess.

Might as well ask this now, while Eun Mara folks are in attendance.
Has anyone ever weighed a completed Eun Mara or Wee Seal, in sailing trim, on the trailer? I ask because I just noticed something about Iain's numbers for Wee Seal.
Weight: 1,400
Ballast: 600 pounds
1,400-600=800 pounds for the hull, spars, sails, etc. Manure, says I. Or there's a typo. in the catalog. My Caledonia yawl sans ballast, cabin furniture, deck, cabin roof, etc. weighs 900 pounds. Something ain't right. But then Iain says a Caledonia yawl hull weighs 330 pounds. That isn't right either.
Dale, is that your boat sitting on the EZ-Loader trailer in front of the garage? I've looked at too many boats lately to keep them straight. If it is yours, will it go through the garage door on the trailer? If not, how much does it miss by? I'm assuming a standard 7'-0" high garage door. OOPS, maybe yours is metric. Never mind, it's Alan's boat. Alan, are you out there? Has your boat visited a truck scale? Please? Will it go back in the garage?

Not my boat, Wayne.
Just one I stumbled across on the web.
But her displacement to her designed waterline will tell you what her weight is. Surely Iain's done that already? But if you don't buy his numbers, it's not that hard for you to do yourself... Volume beneath waterline in cu. ft. x weight of water (Cubic foot, 62.42796 lbs.).

Wayne,
No, that one isn't mine, it's Alan's, down in Washington state. Mine is still on its building cradle. I'm pretty sure that he has not weighed it yet, as he was still doing some mods on the trailer the last I heard.
I agree, it will be heavier than the weight given by Iain. How much I do not know.
I'll ask Alan if he has weighed his.

I forgot to say that yes, Alan's boat did go back in the garage, and he got the door closed.

As for the weight on the trailer, I followed Iain's estimate for my boat, rounded up to the next hundred pounds and was almost 30% low. I am naturally skeptical of his estimates for Wee Seal and Eun Mara.

Well, I heard back from Alan, and he hasn't weighed his boat yet. He expects that it will be pretty heavy, sapele ply, oak and mahogany, teak deck, lots of epoxy... He said he could weigh it in a couple of weeks or so. If I hear, I'll let the forum know.
