she seems to be floating a bit off her lines...

If she floated to her marks with no masts, ballast or nosegear, we'd worry some, eh.

yes, I guess thats about normal for a hull like that to float bow up when empty. I wonder if she gets internal ballast...

I understand she's empty. They're towing her to the south of France for fitting out

I wonder how much that project will cost when finished...

I'd guess several hundred dollars. Maybe even thousands. Why, the sails alone would be worth more than I make in a week.

I think Ill build one too. Starting next week.

Sailing Anarchy mentions that she was trimmed 'bow high' so that she would clear the slipway where she was launched.

She's only 185 feet on deck. That's less than a football field. You might have to trim your living expenses a bit by not eating out at restaurants quite so much but that would also free up time to work on her as the job could easily run over 2 or 300 hours. I just ordered the plans. Haven't told Cathy yet though. It'll be a surprise.

:D Paul, I haven't figured out how to post pics here yet. Can anyone tell me how?

Jim'll want to scale it down to 9 feet and put a junk rig on it.

That may seem small but keep in mind that's not including the bowsprit. A three masted junk schooner should be a striking sight while under a full press and the necessarily close placement of the masts will dovetail nicely with the need for a high aspect sailplan for windward work. Aesthetically, six feet of headroom in the wheel house ought to produce a nice compromise between the need for crew comfort without making the house appear overly tall. It would be a little tight inside but when not on watch the crew could relax or sleep in the ocean.

Here is the 18 foot version shown with only one mast. She could easily be shortened to half the length by spacing the frames closer (although I wouldn't advise changing the beam). The cabin as shown would only have to be increased in height by 20%:

I'm email John Welsford with the specs right now, or maybe Selway Fisher has a stock plan that's similar.

Most people will think the "PH" in the name stands for "Pilot House".

I see John W has the 13 foot Fafnir available in his stock plans now. I'd better get started on the necessary modifications...

Not after I stencil her portrait on the transom.
