My younger brother Ross is having medical problems; for years he worked as as a cook, then as a chef, spending his days on his feet, and now he's spending most of his day at a desk, and he's getting blood clots from deep vein thrombosis. They put in a Greenfield filter for these a week ago, and he went home and was doing fine, and then collapsed. He's back in the hospital while they figure out what happened (not a stroke, not a heart attack.) Wife & son are with him, and he's cheery but confused about the unexpected outcome.

Really scary when he's ten years younger than I am.

Thank you all very much; I've heard no change of status report yet, and presume that means they're still watching him and he's doing OK so far.

Oh $#%$$%#&$% %^$%#.

It appears at the moment that the treatment for the ulcer several months ago disguised the metastatic cancer which has invaded most of his body, and that that is the cause of the blood clots. Surgery is not possible, and either chemo or radiation would interfer with the anti-clotting meds. They appear to be recommending hospice care, with no time estimate yet, but brief.

More prayers, please, for Ross and his family, and for us.

After ten days of testing, we have a diagnosis. It's very bad. The gory details, which you may want to skip:

It took ten days of multiple MRIs, CTs, biopsies, and who knows what else. Metastatic cancer of unknown origin; hundreds, if not thousands, of tiny tumors, involving the legs, pelvis, lungs, stomach, liver, kidneys, intestines, ... and now the spine. Inoperative, chemo and radiation are ineffective, slowing neither tumor formation or growth. They're looking for an experimental protocol but it's so advanced they haven't found one he qualifies for.

He's been moved to hospice care, with a self-controlled morphine drip for the pain. He's in a quasi-conscious state and will go soon. We're going down to visit this weekend, with the rest of his family. Ross was always the one who was never sick. He got the measles; you had to look really close to see the marks. He got the mumps; only Doc Murdy could feel the lumps in his neck, we couldn't see them. Other than that, I don't every remember him being sick, with anything. Lots of perfect attendance awards when he was in school, it became a joke.

I won't be around much for a week or two, I suspect. Part of the reason I'm typing this is that it makes it easier to face. Thank you for your support, and your prayers.

Our hearts go out for Ross and all of you.

It's amazing that this came on so suddenly and so seriously. Just blown away... So, so sorry.

Prayers being sent for you all.

Hoping for Ross to have a peaceful departure, -without fear... and strength for all of you who love him.
