View Full Version : I'm home

What a nightmare. All of the things you fear in a hospital are real in the place that I was. Noisy, bad food, noisy, not much sleep, needles, and the worst nightmare is one that I can't bring up here. Very serious and hard to believe.

I'm not sure about my sailing season yet. Hopefully I'll be able to get back in shape soon enough to finish up and sail this year. I hadn't planned on having my chest and heart opened up.

Thanks to all for your well wishes. It does mean a lot to us.

Hurrah!

I hate hospitals so badly that I tore the IV's out of my arm one time and got into a confrontation with a doctor as I was scurrying out the front doors. I hate hospitals, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to keep yourself going for your family and friends (and in your particular case, for one of the most beautiful boats in the world). Take care of yourself. Recover. You've got a lot more coats of varnish in you.

Would you be alive without the hospitalization?

Rich,
I dont know you but I have to tell you about a gentleman I know. His harbor name is "whiskey ding" it was used to describe all the bruises he would get stumbling around the harbor. ( usually Stinger induced)
He always was dating some younger woman. He wore his Chest scars like badges of honor. He was opened up twice and never mended his ways.
He just sold his 41 CC Commander at the end of last season. He is 87.
If he can make it, you can too. (Hopefully without the "whiskey dings")

Best wishes

Don't run the legs off of your caregiver and steady as she goes! Good to see you back. Now you will have some time to do all of the obscure searches for all of the interesting topics on the WBF over the years. John B's posts alone are good for hours of good sailing!

Glad you're back. Take it easy and stretch out the recovery for as long as possible. After all you have a good excuse to take a break and think things over.
Well, that's what I did, at any rate.

Days late and dollars short - What happened? Hospitals, well let's just say that they have a purpose, and 'good time' ain't it.

Hope you're well on your way to complete recovery. Tell Ms 'D' to be nice to you, and you give her a nice squeeze so she knows you appriciate her kindness.

Rich

My worst nightmare, too. I saw my mother go through it and it was hard for me to see her so scared before and exhausted after. It was touch and go for a long time.

Glad you're getting along well enough to be home so soon. A Good Sign!

I've been going through the list of things that I needed to get done around here and on Sonja, and I just don't see it happening. I'm not surprised at my lack of stamina and with three months just to heal the breast bone, cripe, half my sailing season will be over. I'm just hoping this won't be the lost year. We've suffered through way too much snow to think my summer is wrecked already. I'm sort of at a low point here, but gotta think positive somehow.

Welcome home - hope you'll be mended soon.

My MIL has been through several surgeries for stents, angioplasty, and a valve replacment. While they've been difficult times, I think she's in better health now than when I first met her in some regards. Its been a second lease on life for her. Her take is always to get home as soon as possible, because "Sick people are in hospitals."

Best wishes.

Rich... you have to look at it NOT as "its gonna take forever to heal and I lose the sailing season" but as "I'm still here and I've got other seasons ahead of me".

We're all just glad you're still breathing and can post with us. Don't rush things.

Rich VanValkenburg

I know, I'm still here, though I'm hoping I didn't lose many pieces with the TIA. Hard to tell yet. One bad thing is that my chest hair is growing back amid the scars and other chest debris and doesn't feel real good.
One good thing is that I haven't had a smoke in 2 weeks. I'll try to stay with that.

On the other hand, Vince, take a guy who has just gone through being cracked open and re-tubed. Would you expect him to say: "Crap! I'll miss half the sailing season?" That sort of guy is a survivor!

Lew Barrett

Oh! Smoker! Well then, time for the patch! You think your chest hair feels funky now? Try it after 24 hours with one of those things on it! But quitting will be the best single thing you can do for yourself....not that you need us to tell you.

Kinda bored, feels like an axe is burried in my chest, still really pissed about the whole thing, and looking for legal help because of what happened. I think they're going to spring me out of here for a while today to see some family.

I tried...I really tried...to find some pics of really sexy nurses...(Oxymoron)....but all I could find were nurse porno stars and I didn't think that would go over too well on the forum.....not that I wouldn't try if it would speed things up a bit....and yeah......wait until the hair starts growing back into the scar tissue...it's gonna drive ya stark ravin' bananas.......

So your back in the hospital??

Either way your still above ground , keep that up :), best wishes for speedy / speedier recovery.

No, I'm home. But still a little isolated. This is the time I wished I'd stocked up my bookshelf. I've got a few things but some are still hidden after the move.

Yeah, that place has some nice looking nurses, but along with the nurses I remember the sickening ring-tones of their phones going off ALL the time, the beeping of the BP carts, and the pounding of the iron workers adding to the hospital. Glad to be home.

Meant to be a joke, Paul.

And your note should read "...you're...", the contraction for 'you are'...unless you meant something else...

50's are the new 30's.;)Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.
Hey Rich, I don't know exactly what you've had to have done and thats none of my bus, but I've come across several guys over the last few years who have had heart work done through necessity/emergency , and their lives have been improved greatly by it.Higher energy levels and all round higher quality of life. Transformed was one word that seems to be repeated a lot.

Rich, good to see you're back home. Sorry they screwed something up first and glad to see it's handled.

Now is time to relax and enjoy your life with your wife, -those you love and those who are most important in your life.

Come summertime, maybe you have sailing friends near by, who can go sailing with you and they can do all the stuff you shouldn't do and thus you can enjoy sailing without doing anything to harm yourself.

Wishing you and Debbie all the best...:)
