About 10 years ago I used Dow Corning Silicone Rubber as an adhesive to mount some moldings. Naturally there was an edge of the adhesive at the edge of the molding. As many of you know, and I found out paint doesn't stick to the RTV. Anything short of mechanically removing it I can do to get paint to stick?

No. Gotta scrape it all off and clean the surface.
There are soe new "paintable" silicones for khome repairs, etc, out there, but do not know their secret.

What Moby Nick said. Silicone isn't a great product on a boat, I'm afraid; certainly not one you can coat over.

Was hoping that someone had a secret formula. Well at least I know how to fix the problem. Thanks for the confirmation.

silicone is silicone, anything with silicone in it, will foul things up for painting..
Paints of any type will not stick or adhere to silicone based products. It'll just peel off later.. Why messing with that stuff anyway.. Clean it all off, and some solvent to removes traces of it.. re-chaulk or re-glue with something paintable...

On house painting jobs, I have only found one thing to work, even w/ scraping and sanding. Spread some paintable calk on top (very, very little/not enough to even see). It sticks to the non-paintable caulk, and paint sticks to it.
Held up for 2 yrs in a shower environment...no promisses.
