Can anyone recommend a source for purchasing and engraving a brass nameplate/builder's plate? WB store is out of their plates for a couple of months, but I still need to get one made.
Cheers!

Most any printing service can produce a raised letter pattern for you that can be then cast by a foundry. That is if you are seeking raised letters. If you want engraved copy, check with your local trophy supply or engraving service.

ABI used to sell them. I havn't looked at their catalog in a while so I don't know if thjey still do.
I just looked. They still do, its called a commissioning plate. You can have it engraved to say what you want.

Any trophy shop should be able to do the engraving. I cut mine from a piece of scrap brass but the engraver will have plates too.

As much of a fan of WB as I am, it continues to amaze me that they actually have the cojones to SELL bare "name plates." It's just a hunk of brass or bronze plate, for Pete's sake. As said, you can get any local trophy store to just run you one up in any style you want. Be sure to tell them you don't want it lacquered. Lacquered yellow metal will only stay shiney for a short while in the weather and then start getting the "pox" with all sorts of corroded spots on it. Then you have to get the lacquer off (sometimes really hard... try it on a nice cabin lamp sometime!) and you end up polishing it occasionally anyway. Easier to start bare and give it a swipe of Nev-r-dull now and again. Sort of satisfying to do that, too, ya know.

Athletic Awards Company. Ask for Monte Jr. and tell him you have a wooden boat.

Thanks for the imput. I was going to try the local engraver/awards shop. Just thought that someone might have a source already in place. Kc8pql, love the 'Alaya' plate! And Bob, agreed, seems a bit pricey for an oval hunk of metal. But again, I like the look, it was available, and I generally don't mind paying a little extra to support a company that I like. And Brian, I will likely do as you suggest also.
Cheers!

If you want permanent memorialization/identification, carve/cut your name into the mast partner or a bulkhead. A plate can be removed easily.
I branded mine, with a electric wood branding iron.. Burn 'er deep enough without scorching the rest..
