Yup. it is a snowy, damp day. I have been thinking about this speech recently and thought that it deserved a poll. I actually came up with several different polls which could be used using this one as the baseline. But, I had to start somewhere.

I punched the last choice.. I don't vol. anymore as I don't stay in one place long enough.
However was a Vol. EMT for 15 yrs.. As an EMT probably would make 25,000-30,000/yr.salary, I saved the county approx.$350,000.00.and saved lives in the process.
Needless to say, I'd rather vol. than throw money/programs AT A PROBLEM.
I recall JFK's speach went something like this, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country." He got it backwards. What my country can do for me IS the question. What do I pay taxes for? If my country cannot do anything for me an the others here, it does not deserve to exist. Who exists for whom?

That's a sad commentary.

I volunteered a few hours over Christmas. It was as much for me as for what I might provide. I'd done volunteer work in the past, but not recently.
A good thing to do. I think rather than working in a soup kitchen my next stint might be as a literacy volunteer. It's shocking, to me anyway, the number of American adults who are illiterate. Reading is such a joy, and so important! Another possibility is the local animal shelter.
Seeing where your skills or personality could do some good, and doing it without pay, is a fine use of time which otherwise might be wasted on the WBF.;)

I guess my museumharbour CEO job counts.
1. it is an honorary office
2. it usually consumes at least 5hrs a week
3. the museumharbour is a charitable club serving the public
4. although I do not offer any help in the ordinary sense I provide my manpower for an organisation that preserves an important part of maritime history
