A friend sent an email with photos of unusual cars... Thought you might enjoy seeing them...

You're welcome to post any unusual or interesting transportation pix here... car, boat, plane,
bike, etc...

Since we love boats, here is a car to start with...

Colorful. I bet MMike would like the pix of the woman... Similar to his avatar...

Here is a strange one...

I've heard a brand of cars referred to as "coffin on wheels". This one gives the saying
a new meaning...

Nice pictures. Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing...

Bigfella, that match car is really something.

Larry, is that middle trailer sitting in a pond?

Duncan, Uffa Fox was quite a guy to do that. Interesting story in your link.

Cool thread, great pictures. Sorry, no posted picture, it's a woody though; the commentary has some interesting things to say which also also could apply to wooden boats.

Looks like two engines under the wings attached to the "hull."
The landing gear looks barely up to the job.

I think there's two props...one on either side.....

The plane was built many years ago by an elderly friend of mine named Sandy Hudson, and the plane was appropriately named the Hudson Thing. It was powered alternately by a variety of Briggs and Stratton engines mounted on pylons aft of the cockpit. The last time I saw Sandy and the plane it had, I think, 18 hp B&Rs with four bladed props. Two of the blades were shorter than the others. When I asked him why, he said someone had carelessly laid a jacket on the fuselage behind the cockpit and the props sucked it in breaking a blade. He sawed the other blade off to balance it so he could fly it home. He told me the engine performed so much better he just sawed off the other side to match instead of installing new blades.

Sandy spent about 40 years building birds like this until one Saturday at a Salisbury, NC fly-in he introduced me to his son. On Sunday his son was flying the Thing, made a low pass and stalled the plane pulling up at the end of the runway. Sandy died shortly after, most say of a broken heart.

This little plane made appearances all over the east coast.

This glider built by John Domenjoz in 1930 is at the Owl's Head Transportation Museum in Maine. As the museum blurb says, "We probably will never know if Domenjoz’s intent was pure carnival or serious." It did fly once.
Is that a dipping lug?

No, it's a very poorly rigged standing lug. The halyard tie-off point on the yard is way too far aft, causing the leech to look like crap and not providing enough luff tension (I can't help it. People pay me to do this stuff).

Can you show photos of the ones you are making sails for? Looks interesting. Is it a glider or does it have motor? Small, strange looking wheels, they don't look very sturdy. How does this work? I've never seen one.

JD, that's a wonderful photo. Suitable for framing... Love the dog in the seat. What happened next? Did they float off for a while ? ...and then...?

What are those machineries used for. Cargo moving, but what kind of cargo?

That's the most unique boat I've ever seen and the motor looks pretty big too. Love it...

Now that is funny. As I see, there are rachets on each set of pedals, and that mean if 1 can pedal while other 6 just sit and enjoy free ride.....:D
