I think i am leaning toward the slick seam product for my lapstrake kulas44. But, how long after I put it on do i need to get the tub in the water. It's a long ways to the ocean from anywhere in oklahoma. Also, can i paint over it or should i paint first, then use it. The neatest thing about this old boat is that I am astounded by my ignorance !

You can paint over it, as I did with a Luhrs not quite that big many years ago. Typically we would get the boat back into the water asap, but even if left out for awile, they do swell back up.
Was gona ask you where you going to put that boat as it's a long way from chasing Tuna off the Jersey coast and where in OK would it float? Are you planing to go down the Mississippi?.. that would be a nice trip.
edit ... we always used soft copper bottom paint, Red Hand was one of the brand names.

It's just wax, a very sticky wax that will adhere to things even when applied underwater.
Personally I wouldn't paint over it.
I used a lot of it this year because I didn't launch until July 20 (I had to recover the cabin roof after 55 years. I'll probably have to do it in another 55 years. Work... work... work...) I pre-soaked the planks with wet shop-towels running up from the bilges, but Robin and I spent about 4 hours doing the entire boat (40ft ketch), and I could have gone right to my slip -- though I'm not that brave. Complete success.
But as you know, it's not a substitute for caulking. It's just a temporary sealant. For that purpose it is superb.

Red HandHmmm, the only Red Hand I recall was/is a bottom plank filler goop.
