I was sanding and sanding and sanding to get all the epoxy imperfections out of a wood door I'm building for the boat. Then I grabed a card scraper and woooosh, all my troubles were smoothed away just like that! I'm a rooky, but is there any reason why this isn't a revelation akin to sliced bread?
Sanding attacks the whole surface, scrapeing hits the high spots first. Runs, bumps, sags all yield to scrapeing much better than sanding, at least for the initial effort.

Mark, too bad you had to do all that sanding, sometimes its just what is needed but the scraper is a pretty common practice amounst those building with epoxy,,,for good reason as you have disovered.

Robb White did an article a few years back (WB 165, march/april 2002) about using a home-made cabinet scraper to smooth epoxy. The article includes directions on sharpening and burnishing the scraper for best results. His advice: "leave the sandpaper in the drawer."

Works on varnish, if it's cured enough.
