This may already have been posted long time ago:

Ship Model: Admiral Graf Spee, scratch built by: William Terra (ME - USA); Scale: 1:20

The model is built like a canoe using 1"/4" bass wood strips & then covered w/fiberglass.
Estimated weight: 700 lbs
The beam is 52"
The length is about 30'
It can carry 2 persons.
The model is powered by a 15 hp outboard engine under rear gun turret.
It can sail 15 mph

Construction time: 4 years (so far). It is estimated to require at least 2 more years of work to make the model complete

That is NOT a big model!

At 30' it rates as a small battleship...

There's a guy in New Bedford (I think...maybe Fairhaven) who's building a 1/2 scale model of a Concordia yawl. Fully rigged and exact in every detail, down to the folding bunks and the raised panel pine interior. He was at the shop the other day measuring more bits to reproduce in miniature.

Cool project, but I'll be damned if I can figure out what he's going to do with it when he's done. Considering the amount of work, I'd imagine it would be just as easy to build the real thing.

Yeah, I just don't get the whole model/minature thing...particularly when they cost nearly as much and are as much work as the original. Same thing with dogs -- it's retrievers and animal-rescue pit bulls at Thorne Hall, no chiuauas or pekes...

Wow.... That is awesome... Does those guns works too?

Paintballs would be nice. You could have some serious naval warfare with your pals.:D
