I'm having trouble locating an insurer for my 1933 16' wooden catboat.
Anyone have suggestion or leads?

I take it like me you haven't shore property to add it as a rider to your homeowner's. Some autoinsurance companies will insure it.

On the other hand, you may be facing an age problem. Assuming she's classic, check Hararty who I think still advertises in WB.

Or assume all risk yourself. She's too small to inflict much damage on anything else so your main exposure is liability if your crew gets sunburn or cracks a head in a bad gybe or something.

Hagerty Collector Car and Boat Insurance www.hagerty.com (http://www.hagerty.com). No commercial connection but they are nearby in Traverse City and advertise heavily at wooden boat shows locally.

Also, Heritage Insurance insures old wooden boats.

Our State Farm homeowners policy covers liability only on boats up to 30' with engines less than 20 HP. Give your agent a call.

I use Heritage. You'll have to provide a survey and may need to commit in writing that any issues found in the survey that they deem 'potentially problematic', be corrected before they insure.

If you find a homeowners policy (company) that will issue a rider for your boat, consider yourself mucho lucky. Most will not touch, liability or otherwise, insuring a wooden boat.

I checked with my insurance company (USAA) and they said that I did not need a separate liability policy for the boat in case I crash it into someone else or they get hurt, basically because it is small (20 feet) and unpowered (sail and oar only). They do not cover damage to or loss of the boat. They required a separate liability policy only above a certain size and horsepower, and if you race.
