This post is to thank Phil Eves for the fine visit he hosted at the Brittania Heritage Shipyard in Steveston BC on Saturday. It is a great place, with much going on to delight the hearts of the habitues of this forum -- highly recommended for any who can get there of a Saturday. Lots for the rest of the fam to do too, if they don't give a hoot about boats.
The shipyard is a grand old place, rescued from the amoeboid advance of condominiums by the City and some federal bucks. Great place to work.
The 65' rumrunner (see Phil's last thread) is quite a project -- they have set themselves a tight deadline to get her back in the water (Tall Ships visit in July). They could also use some coaching from any experienced shipyard carpenters who might take a fancy to the work. There must be a handful of them scattered along the beach I would think.
This thing looks very racy and dangerous --

Phil's shipyard assistant says, "No problem -- you just put those 400 hp Liberty V-12's back in here, and she'll be self-bailing!!"

Great stuff Peter. I hope we can get an expedition organized soon to come up for a look.
Thanks,
Jamie
Looks great, I'm looking forward to getting up there and checking it out. Not sure when I can bust loose, the work load at work and around the house just increased. It would be fun to lend a hand if possible. We would have to come empty handed, the border guards don't like seeing us pack tools with us over the border.

Thanks for posting Peter, these are the first photos to escape the yard, and hopefully we can escape some more...Cheers, Phil.

Another great day in the yard, got most of the frame replaced, ready to "glue and screw" and re-plank and then....get her back in the water.......I also went to see a 120' converted schooner to see about possible work, yes they have some...so do I want to be a timber framer...or do I want to work on boats full time?...hmmmmmm?....decisions, decisions....cheers,Phil...

Just found out that the Liberty engine that was in Wenatchee has been moved back to Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Maybe they would have plans or more specs that would be interesting.
Phil, if your explorations in the bilge tell you any more, I would be interested. The matching copper or bronze plates on the hull either side of the keel sure look like old shaft penetrations to me. There should be some sign of very herky engine beds in there somewhere I would think.
Good to hear you are closing in on the transom -- keep us posted.

Hey Peter, just check out the site <richmondtallships.ca> they have schedules and the list of ships coming in and lots of other info, Funny, it completely coincides with my holiday time and I will be on site the whole time so, hopefully we can cook up some "royal" tour time and see some other sites as well, cheers,Phil.

Anybody see the monthly Coast Guard magazine -- it has some pix of the modern equivalent of a rumrunner -- four big outboards across the transom. Hard to have much sentiment about 'em, but they sure go fast. Guess .50 cal slows em down a bit.

Needed the shades today! Anyone coming up for the Tallships? We still can provide the Royal tour/treatment, what with the U.S./Cdn. dollar joke rate....I'm taking holidays that week(Aug5-12th), so am primed and ready for the sail extravaganza! Cheers,Phil.
P.S. Reminder...<richmondtallships.ca>
