New member here looking for a bit of sharpie insight.

Does anyone here have fist hand experience sailing the sharpie cat ketch Catbird 24 from CMD? Curious to know how this sharpie hull behaves during trips out of Long Island Sound into Block Island Sound or out through Plum Gut or the Race to access the eastern end of LI in less than ideal conditions?

Thank you,

Joe

Too bad no one else replied.

I have a Catbird 16 which I sailed out of Accabonac Harbor into Gardiners Bay for the first time yesterday. The waves were 6-12 inches, wind about 10 knots and she seemed a bit too bouncy for my liking. I plan to add some ballast in the bilges next to the centerboard trunk next year.

Even though that cat ketch rig makes for easy sail handling, from what limited knowledge I have of hull design, a flat bottomed boat is not the best for rough water situations. They have a good deal of initial stability but once they are knocked down by wave or wind, not likely to right themselves.

May be too beamy to be a true sharpie. Not sharp enough.
