I have a question a little bit off the wooden boat topic. I am building an entertainment center for a friend and I have a piece of birch veneer plywood with a slight bend in it. Is there any way to straighten the plywood?

Any help is much appreciated
Thanks
Dave

If it was bent when you bought it, it probably has some sort of internal stress issue.... Uneven plys, moisture content issues durring manufacture..... And in that case, probably not. If it bent because you had it leaning up against a wall at an angle, try flipping it over and see if it goes back. How much of a bend are we talking about?

What is its intended use? IE, if its going to be a panel enclosed by a frame, the frame will likely straighten it.

The plywood is new and I did not notice the bend in this piece. I am hoping the face frame will pull it back.

If it was the top sheet on a lift it's cause one side was exposed to ambient humidity, store it with good circulation it should streighten out. If not place it on saw horses crown up and put some weight on it, that may work too. If it's internal stresses due to poor manufacture (off shore plywood) cut it up, that will lessen the stresses. If it's realy bad and one face will never be seen score the concave face.

Just throw it on the lawn for a little while in the sun, nature will straighten it out for you in no time.

You've got it Banjo, watch the timing though as it can move pretty quickly. It works really well but I'd say in most parts of Aussie you might need to sprinkle bottled water on it first.
Hows the drout effecting you?

Dry as chips here in Melbourne mate.
This wont work in my yards, no lawn! LOL

The way things are going I might have to stop working on the boat and start patching and painting the house with all the movement in the last 6 - 12 months.
