Hi all, I thought I'd sound the collective creativity of this august forum to find the most convenient way to attach a dust collection hood to a '50's era (read: no obvious way to attach without drilling through heavy castings) Powermatic P100 planer.
This mock up actually works very well, thanks to DUCT TAPE!! :D

I especially like the way it flips up for easy and safe chip jam removal. I'm using a shop vac for suckage, and it works better than I thought it would.
I'd like to make one of sheet metal, but the best solution for attachment hasn't yet occurred to me. Any suggestions?

If you want to have a robust attachment to the device (and vibration free...) Look at 3M's VHB double-sided foam tapes. The stuff is really, really strong.

I'd put a bar across with a piano hinge to the sheet metal hood, and a rubber flap on top of the hinged part to help keep suction. Also, how about a side-mounted vacuum port instead of a rear mounted one?

Mine bolts rigidly to the top of the castings that support the spindle
2 ea – factory drilled and tapped 1/4x20 threaded holes each side

Powermatic? Looks a lot like a Delta....
Leave a 2" flange on the top bit (where you have duct tape currently) find a few good sized speaker magnets, and Bob's yer uncle.

If I understand you correctly, those holes are under the chipbreaker; any attachment would prevent the chipbreaker unit from lifting away from the cutterhead. Which model do you have?

That spot has a locknut adjustment holding the head bearing housing on mine-(1/4-20)
