I need resorcinol glue suitable for boatbuilding. Somebody recommended me Aerodux (500) glue but it's difficult to find resource for it. However,I found resorcinol "Prefere 4050M" with hardener "Prefere 5750" at www.aeropia.com (http://www.aeropia.com) . Anyone has experience with this glue? Is this the same glue as Aerodux? Any other good resource for resorcinol in Europe?

Emichaels, I know of this source, but I was told they supply only in large quantities?
Michigangeorge, Chemical-Supermarket is based in California and I'm from Croatia so it isn't really convenient for me.

You could find it in Italia.

Thank you Nicholas. It's Aerodux 185 (not 500) but will do.

I suppose they could order it for you. If you want i could ask directly to store.
Witch difference between aerodux 185 and 500?

Aerodux 185 is mixed in 1:5 ratio, one part is powder and other liquid. Aerodux 500 is easier to mix- hardener is also liquid and the mixing ratio is 1:1. I believe Aerodux 500 is simply improved form of Aerodux resorcinol.
If you could ask in the store that would be great. Many thanks!

Some Specs:
Aerodux 185:
liquid resorcinol-phenol-formaldehyde resin mixed with
powder Hardener HRP.150 or HRP.155 provides cold-setting
weatherproof and gap-filling adhesives. The adhesives are also suited to
the production of heat resistant composite structures, e.g., fire-resisting
doors.
Aerodux 185 with HRP hardeners, when fully cured, is resistant to
acids, weak alkalis, solvents and boiling water.
Aerodux 185 is suitable for bonding a wide range of materials to porous
trates. These materials include:
d, improved or densified woods, e.g. H_/dulignum .
ral fibre reinforced boards, brick, concrete, unglazed porcelain.
_1_ Rigid expanded plastics, e.g., expanded polystyrene, polyurethane and
PVC.
Industrial and decorative laminates (phenolic resin-based or phenolic
resin backed).
Leather, cork, linoleum and nylon.
Aerodux 185 may also be used to bond natural and synthetic rubber
(other than silicone rubber) and sheet metals to wood (see Preparation
of Materials for Bonding).
G
liquid resorcinol-phen01-
formaldehyde resin mixed with powder
Hardener HRP.150 or HRP.155 meet the
requirements of BS 1204: Parts 1 and 2
(Type WBP), BS 1203 (Type WBP), DIN 68
141, DIN 68 705 (AW 100). It is also
approved under DIN 1052 for the
manufacture of load bearing building
components, and by FMPA, Stutgart, for
the manufacture of structural building
elements.
The adhesives are also suited to the
production of heat resistant composite
structures, e.g. fire-resisting doors.
Typical Properties of Aerodux
185
Appearance ............... Reddish-brown
liquid
Viscosity at 25°C ...... 0.25 - 0.50 Pa s
(2.5 - 5.0 poises)
S.G. at25°C ............. 1.14- 1.16
Solids Content ........... 57 _+2%
pH ........................... 7.0 - 8.0
Flashpoint ................. 52°C
Aerodux 500:
Aerodux 500 liquid resins, when mixed with Hardener 501, provide a range of adhesive formulations which are fully weatherproof, and particularly suited to the manufacture of large laminated timber structures or other critical wood structures which are expected to be exposed to the elements. Additionally, they are resistant to acids, weak alkalis, solvents and to boiling water.
Aerodux 500 adhesives are simple to prepare. Both resin and hardener are liquids, and mixed in a 1:1 ratio.
They meet the requirements of BS 1204, Parts 1 and 2 (Type WBP), BS 1203 (Type WBP), and DIN 68 705 (AW 100), and can be released in accordance with DCI and ARB regulations.
Adhesive Chemistry:
PRF adhesives are classified as thermosetting polymers and are produced by a condensation polymerization reaction between formaldehyde, phenol and resorcinol.
PRF adhesives are cold-setting with very high weather and water resistance as well as heat resistance to be used in products for exterior, humid and interior climates. PRF adhesives are mainly used in the production of load-bearing timber structures and are tested and approved by official testing bodies for use in the building industry.
Physical Properties, Aerodux 500 Resins (Slow, Medium, or Fast):
Appearance Reddish-brown liquid
Viscosity at 70°F 40,000 to 111,000 centipoise (similar to ketchup)
Specific Gravity at 70° 1.13
Solids Content 52-58%
Flash Point 88°F (31°C)
Hope this helps.

You might find it easier to get hold of Cascophen. Assuming that you can ship stuff from Italy try (for instance) http://www.cecchi.it/italiano/htmeng/listinin.html#colle. What they call 'C Systems Red Glue' is the stuff that you need.
